Georgetown's Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate is an entry-level credential for individuals interested in teaching English as a foreign or second language. The program is designed for all experience levels, and can be taken regardless of whether or not you have prior teaching experience. A hybrid program, the certificate courses take place online, with an additional in-person teaching practicum required for all students.

As part of the certificate curriculum, you will undertake student teaching after 10 hours of observations and lesson planning. You’ll also complete a culminating project, in which you’ll develop a substantial teaching portfolio that demonstrates the skills and knowledge you have acquired. Your portfolio will be based on the philosophy of teaching you develop throughout the semester, and will include items such as practical lesson plans, instructional materials, and reflections on your practicum teaching experience.
